The MANIAC Laws of Success!

Over the past 20 plus years I have observed and studied literally thousands of Goal Setting Programs!

I got to tell you….

Most of them are average at best!

Hey, don’t get me wrong there is a great deal of facts that go with most of these programs that all seem to be centered around the SMART model.

You know, Goals need to be Specific, Measureable, Action-Oriented, Realistic and Time sensitive!

I totally agree….

BUT there’s more….

Much more!

So, the journey began with one step and led to many steps….

Thus, to the conclusion that MOST people set Goals without understanding the LAWS of Success!

Here we go….

A Fresh, New and Exciting Approach to Goal Setting & Achievement that will Guarantee More Success than ever before!

No Theory here….

BUT Sound, Practical Steps that lead YOU and all who apply the MANIAC Laws of Success to greater levels of Achievement!

Interested?

I mean, who wants to be less SUCCESSFUL?

Nobody, right?

WRONG!

Most people sabotage their own Success because of two major reasons:

#1.  Deep down inside they do not want to succeed!

WHAT?  How can you say that?!

Simple, most people want to go on believing in their limited way of thinking because it keeps them exactly where they think they should be!

The question isn’t about Success at all, it’s about “Who wants to believe that they are wrong in believing what they believe!”

  In other words, they’d rather be right and stay (catch it!) COMFORTABLE!

If they stay comfortable they won’t MOVE! 

Therefore, they won’t change and they won’t experience Success!

And by the way….

They’d be RIGHT!

The more you read and understand what I wrote – the more you’ll begin to see faces that are associated with the #1 REASON PEOPLE DO NOT SUCCEED!

You know peopl like….

YOU?!

Here’s the second reason:

#2. They Lose their FOCUS!

So what causes so many people to make New Year’s Resolutions….

 KNOWING just as the words come out of their mouth….

They WILL NOT Succeed in their Goal?

Is it they are just too busy?

Not enough time?

Not talented enough?

NO – NO – NO!!!!

It’s because the GOAL was not properly set!

In fact, It wasn’t a Goal at all!

Oh, they wanted it!

Or at least they wanted the desired end result of what that specific Goal brings.

I mean, who doesn’t want to maybe lose weight, get in better shape, make more money, have better relationships, etc.?

YOU must be really BAD if you pass this TEST!

Seriously, Take this Test to find out How BAD you really are….


Answer the Following Questions to see if you PASS!


1. What Goal or Dream do you DESIRE to Achieve?


2. What STRENGTHS do you possess that will help YOU Achieve your Goal or Dream?


3. What would your life look like if YOU really ACHIEVE it?


4. What do YOU think is holding you back from the Achievement of your Goal or Dream?


5. What OBSTACLES could you tackle and overcome with help from others?


6. On a scale from 1-10 (1 meaning, not much of a chance and 10 meaning, I can achieve my Goal, no problem!) Where do you RANK yourself in your BELIEF LEVEL to ACHIEVE your Goal or Dream?


7. How difficult would it be to develop an ACTION LIST of things you need to do in order to ACHIEVE your Goal or Dream?


8. What are the First Steps you believe are needed in order to develop a PLAN of ACTION?


9. Could YOU create a LIST of things you need to do that would be relatively SIMPLE for you to Achieve your Goal or Dream?  How about a LIST of the most DIFFICULT things for you to Achieve your Goal or Dream? 


10. Why is it IMPORTANT for you to Achieve this Goal or Dream?  What would it mean to YOU?


Well, let’s see HOW BAD you really are….


Oh, I guess I better let you in on a little SECRET….

When you set a Goal or Dream….


The first and most important step for you to take is to truly BELIEVE that you can Achieve your Goal or Dream!

The next step is just as VITAL….


Do you have the ability, talent, determination and perseverance to ACHIEVE  your Goal or Dream?

The Action Steps that are needed to get what you want can be summed up in this POWERFUL two-letter word….


DO!


This Action Step is what separates the “Wannabe’s” from those that put themselves on the path of CHAMPIONS!


People that decide to “Get After It” in Sport, Faith, Relationships, and Life do not always WIN….


But they DO what they need to PURSUE their ambitions or serving others!


You only “GET DONE” what you’ve decided to DO!


So now that you have the true meaning of being BAD….

How to get an Ipod State of Mind!

Back in the day a lot of us listened to the Sony Walkman!

Some of you are saying; “The What?”

Anyway, for those not quite as ancient as I am….

The Sony Walkman was the premiere listening device where you….

You guessed it, “Walked Around” and listen to your favorite music.

Although the Technology has changed – The routine is still pretty much the same….

1.       PICK your favorite tunes….

2.       SELECT the order in which you want to listen to your music….

3.       CREATE the MOOD that BEST serves your purpose….

4.       ENJOY the process of HOW the music makes you feel and….

5.       READY yourself with the Music YOU love to listen to before Competition!

In fact, this is a Pre-Competition Routine! 

As you look above at the list you can easily recognize that these are actions that you control.

The Ipod State of Mind is CONTROLLING what you listen to on the inside!

Mental Skills Coaches around the world don’t always agree on everything but they do agree with this….

“The Most Important conversation you have, is the one you have with yourself!”

Remember the following:

1.       PICK = What you want to go INSIDE your mind!

2.       SELECT = Only that which Maximizes your potential in Competition!

3.       CREATE = The MINDSET that Best prepares you for SUCCESS!

4.       ENJOY = Take it all in stride – Don’t get too fired-up or be too calm – Prepare & have fun doing it!

5.       READY = Get yourself to the Point of Readiness when you are Eager to Step into Competition and “Get After It!”

The key to developing the Proper Mindset is to Control the things you can control

Feed your Mind what it needs the most and repeat it over and over….

Soon you will have The Ipod State of Mind and know exactly what YOU want and need to go in between the Six Inches between the Ears!

Top Ten Ways to INCREASE Performance.... Guaranteed!

Athletes and even non-athletes are always looking for ways to develop an EDGE!

Here are Ten Sure-Fire Ways to INCREASE Performance.... Guaranteed!

1.) Know Your Goals = It sounds obvious but I can't tell you how many people I've met and trained who just don't know what they want.  Typically, they can only tell me what they don't want.  That's not good enough.  YOU need to know with crystal clarity that what you are pursuing can be explained in vivid detail!

2.) Develop a Sense of Urgency = As I write this article the Tampa Bay Bucs are beating the Seattle Seahawks 17-3.  Seattle is faced with a 4th and one yard situation.... What do you think they decided to do?  Yup, you got it - they are going for it!  It's not difficult to understand - they need to go for it because they realize as a team that if they do not take EVERY CHANCE they can than "it's over!"  Developing a Sense of Urgency is doing just that - Realizing that if you do not use EVERY POSSIBILITY to Prepare for Performance the way you REALLY can.... Eventually, your chance will be gone!

3.) Get Emotionally Connected = Not enough people get emotionally connected to their goals!  Sure they want to achieve them - BUT there isn't always this BURNING DESIRE to see it achieved because it "MEANS SO MUCH!"  Well, does it?  Do your goals & dreams have a burning desire behnd them.  What will it really mean if you do not achieve them?  Surely, it may not be fatal BUT if there isn't a substantial amount of PAIN associated with NOT achieving them then I submit that they aren't serious goals.  Are YOU Connected?

4.) Track Your Progress = Hey, you keep score during competition why aren't you keeping score in relation to how well you are training & preparing?  Does that make sense?  Tracking your progress is nothing more than looking for what you are doing well & areas you may need to adjust.  Try keeping a Training Journal - It will help you keep track and stay focused!  Often it helps in raising  confidence for the things you are doing well to get ready to PERFORM!

5.) Make Adjustments = Throughout my childhood I would notice as a young athlete that if YOU did not sulk, kick the dirt and even throw a tantrum or two.... You really didn't care!  That's a bunch of garbage!  Certainly, I believe their should be a level of Healthy Dissatisfaction for a job that is less than your best, however, I do not believe in "Beating yourself up!"  I have a saying with my son (10yrs. old - wrestler & football player) "Don't get frustrated.... Don't Beat yourself up, just make the adjustment!"  The only thing YOU get good at when you beat yourself up is....
"Beating Yourself up!"  It produces negativity, a poor self-worth and ultimately sabotages your greatest performances!  Hey, "What Adjustments are YOU making?"

6.) Seek Counsel = Way too often we hear behind the Mega-Successful People that they were "Self-Made."  I got news for you.... There is no such thing!  Whether your inspiration comes from someone in history that wrote a book or some mentor who said one thing to you - We are constantly being shaped by others and their ideas.  So, Seek the Counsel - The Wise Counsel of "Good People" who've "Been there and done that!"  Find yourself some Mentors that you can keep in touch with and ask them questions about their difficulties, attitudes, triumphs, disappointments and their greatest take-aways from their experiences.  Keep a pen and pad handy and write down what is potentially helpful.  You'll find a "Goldmine" of help and who knows they may be the one who helps you become the next "Self-made.....Ooops.... Strike that - "The Next Successful Person that eventually becomes someone elses Mentor!

7.) Guard Your Thinking = Everyone has an Opinion - Lots of People mean well and want to Coach you and add to your Success.  Some, however, are just not qualified to help.  Keep your mind and your thoughts PROTECTED!  There are also people who are just plain ole' Negative and they will drain you of your Passion to Perform at the Highest level!  Stay away and remember this proverb.... "The Wise walk among the wise and the fools with fools!"  Choose which one makes best sense for your success and your future!


 

 

8.) Enjoy the Process = It's really simple!  Enjoy the fact that YOU are really unique in that very few people would choose to pursue what you are pursuing - Your Goals & Dreams.  Please do yourself, your mind and your body a favor.... Let yourself experience the joy of the hard work, the sacrifice, the exceptional focus, the discipline and everything else that comes with "Getting After your goals & dreams!"  Like I said, "It's really simple....Just not Easy!"

9.) Develop Routines that help YOU Master Performance = Creating Pre-Competition Routines, Warm-ups, Performance Cue's, Visualization drills, etc. have all proven to increase Performance levels for people in the Business of performance.  Take a look at my previous posts to get a better handle on how some of these routines really help!

10.) Execute = Like Nike says; "Just Do It!"  After all of the preparation with the best and proper equipment, coaching, training, recovery and even Mental Skills Coaching.... The bottom line is YOU will be called to "Step up and Perform!"  The biggest key to being able to do this is by developing a sincere desire to "Want to Perform!"  In other words, if your a wrestler.... Your favorite place to be is when it's "Match Time!"  If your a football player....  Your favorite place to be is when it's "Game Time!"  Pick a sport or event - YOU have got to learn how to LOVE the time that means the MOST.... The time when the result means something.  Remember this.... You are a Performer!  PERFORMERS LOVE TO PERFORM!

Battle Time!

Battle Time

Let’s Go!

It’s On!

You wanna a piece of me?

Hey, let’s face it….

Competing, whether it’s an individual sport or team sport….

Is like going into BATTLE!

So, let’s take a look at what’s needed before you get ready to Battle!

Know this….

 As a Soldier prepares for war, a Competitor gets ready for Battle!

Wouldn’t you agree that it would be foolish for a soldier to go into Battle without the right equipment, uniform and necessary tools to fight and….

WIN?!

Well, the same is true for Competitors!

Soldiers wear Uniforms….

So do Competitors….

Soldiers have Weapons….

So do Competitors….

Soldiers have Orders….

So do Competitors….

Soldiers go on a Mission….

So MUST a Competitor!

Soldiers never, never, never Quit!

There can NEVER be an option for either (soldier or competitor)!

Now, time for a quick BRIEFING!

1.      Soldiers/Competitors – Have Uniforms that enhance their Performance!

Mental Skills Tip #1 = Pack your “Gear Bag” with your “battle Ready” uniform ready to go!  Do this for EVERY practice and of course competition.  This will give you the “Mental Reps” you need to go into Battle prepared and ready to win!

2.      Soldiers/Competitors – Have Effective Weapons to attack the Opposition!

Mental Skills Tip #2 = Create a “Weapons Inventory by listing your Strengths that will help you capitalize on your opponents flaws!

3.      Soldiers/Competitors – Follow Orders!

Mental Skills Tip #3 = Your Orders are “The Process” of Performance.  In other words, what does “Great Performance” look like?  Follow the Step-by-Step Procedures for executing skills that make-up great performances.

4.      Soldiers/Competition – Have a Mission with Specific Objectives to Achieve!

Mental Skills Tip #4 =  Post pictures that represent your DESIRED GOAL!  Take 100 index cards and list your training objectives (one objective per card).  Now, take the cards and post them all over your house, locker room, refrigerator, bedroom, bathroom, etc. – These are PART of your “Mental Reps!”

5.      Soldiers/Competitors – Go into Battle giving everything they’ve got!  They leave nothing behind! 

Mental Skills Tip #5 = Set Your Goals to be NON-NEGOTIABLE!  Are your goals non-negotiable?

Finally, YOU MUST get Emotionally Connected by preparing for Battle in the most effective ways available!

Prepare for Successful….
